Honoring Legacy, Fueling Dreams: Meet Amir Perkins, Our First Scholarship Recipient

The John Wesley Johnson Legacy Fund is proud to announce its very first scholarship recipient: Amir Perkins, a graduating senior from Meridian High School with a 4.0 GPA and a heart full of purpose.

Amir’s academic excellence is matched by his leadership—serving as captain of the marching band and a dedicated member of the Beta Club. In the fall, he will attend Jackson State University, pursuing a major in biology on a pre-dental track.

What sets Amir apart is not just his ambition, but the depth of his resilience. After losing his mother, Amir found strength in her memory:

“What drives me the most is my mother’s memory. Losing her was painful, but instead of letting it break me, I use it as fuel to push forward... Knowing that I can one day make a difference in people’s lives keeps me going, even when things get tough.”

This scholarship eases the financial burden on Amir’s family—especially his father, who is also supporting Amir’s older sister in college. But more than that, it is a step toward his dream of becoming a doctor and honoring the woman who inspired him.

Amir embodies everything the John Wesley Johnson Legacy Fund stands for: excellence, perseverance, and the unwavering belief in the power of education to transform lives. We are honored to support his journey—and this is just the beginning.

We are grateful to be able to award a scholarship this year, and we’re just getting started. Stay tuned for upcoming fundraising events as we work toward supporting four scholarships in 2026. Together, we can continue building a legacy that opens doors and uplifts generations.
